Business as usual continues on The Sunset Strip while we continue the "beautification project," wrapping up Phase I and prepping Phase II of the construction. All businesses are open during their normal hours, and we encourage you to support your local businesses during construction.

This week  traffic striping will continue to be installed on the recently paved area between Harper Avenue and Alta Loma Road. The work will be done at night since it needs to be done when traffic volumes are light. They will work only Sunday through Thursday from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. With rain predicted Wednesday night and Thursday, they may continue work Monday and Tuesday night of next week.

Following the striping, the traffic loops will be installed into the pavement. Traffic loops sense vehicles and bicycles in the roadway and tell the traffic signal equipment that someone is waiting at a traffic signal. This will help with traffic flow on Sunset Boulevard.

The various utility companies are continuing to adjust their manhole access covers and valves to the newly paved street. This will continue for the next two weeks.

The tree relocations and tree grate installations for the area between Harper and Alta Loma continues on The Sunset Strip. Most of this work includes replanting palm trees in the "palm tree district" and completing the flowering trees at the east entrance of The Sunset Strip (near Havenhurst).

A part of the project includes pressure washing the sidewalks to remove the gum on the sidewalks. This will also be done at night from 3 a.m. to 9 a.m. when few people are utilizing the sidewalks. The pressure washing will be completed block by block for the next two weeks.

There will be some saw cutting of sidewalks and curbs starting to get ready for the next phase of construction. No excavation or construction in the saw cut areas. A piece of sidewalk that Marilyn Monroe signed her name in the concrete in 1956 has been saved.

In a couple of weeks the project will start the next phase of construction. This phase starts where the last phase left off near Alta Loma Road and will go to San Vicente Boulevard. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation during the construction and temporary lane closures.
