Detroit rockers are well represented this week on The Sunset Strip with the Von Bondies bringing their raw blues/punk fusion to the Viper Room Monday, June 15, and Jack White returning to The Strip on Wednesday, June 17 with his new rock outfit The Dead Weather at The Roxy Theatre. Tickets for Von Bondies are $12 in advance, $15 at the door.

On Tuesday, check out the current art installation at The Standard – a projection featuring Kalup Linzy satirizing various forms of film and television – before enjoying one of their new summer guava mojito ($10).

Book Soup hosts author John Fass Morton as he presents and signs “Backstory in Blue: Ellington at Newport ’56,” a behind-the-scenes look at this influential moment in American cultural history. Event takes place Thursday, June 18 at 7 p.m.

Start the weekend early on Friday with extended happy hour at Isla Cantina from 3-8 p.m., featuring two-for-one drinks and a special appetizer menu, before checking out performances from Aerial, DMS, Heard, Snew, Pet The Dog and Led Zep at Cat Club. Doors open at 8 p.m., tickets are $10 at the door.

Chart-topping rapper/producer DJ Quick performs with special guests at House of Blues Saturday, June 20. The show is ages 18 and up, tickets $25-$27.50.
