Your Sunset Strip Valentine’s Day Guide

“Love is a fire. But whether it is going to warm your hearth or burndown your house, you can never tell.” – Joan Crawford

Valentine’s Day. But make it legendary. Welcome to the Sunset Strip as we take a little stroll through sex, love, and rock and roll to find your ideal vibe.

Rock & Roll
The rich music history of the Strip makes it a truly unique destination overall, and check into the Sunset Marquis to experience the exclusive sanctuary of hit-makers for yourself. Don’t be surprised if you run into a legend or two on your way to the lush on-property Cavatina restaurant, who by the way, are offering their own specials. Or go all out and book a private one-bedroom villa.

California Dreaming
People all over the world covent our California lifestyle. That starts with a delicious plant powered dinner at Fresh on Sunset. Consider pairing that with an eco-chic stay at the 1 Hotel which draws inspiration from the land, sea, and abundant sunshine of Southern California.

James Bond, anyone?
Glamour UK referred to The Edition hotels as “high-octane Glamour” and in this VDay package you and your date will be whisked from your home to the hotel for a 1-night stay in the Penthouse, with an expansive wraparound terrace and panoramic views of Los Angeles. Upon arrival, you will be welcomed with a bottle of Dom Perignon and a 3-course meal, prepared by Executive Chef Pedro Contreras.

Trend Setter
Old Hollywood Glam is always in style and nobody does it like Tower Bar. It is one of the chicest and most welcoming rooms in town, with a fireplace and discreet niche seating. Housed in Bugsy Siegel’s former apartment and connected to the newly expanded Terrace Bar- the experience is elegantly choreographed by Maitre D’ Gabé Doppelt. Add a stay at Sunset Tower Hotel and now we’re making memories.

Start with dinner at Night + Market WeHo, where the vibe is California chill meets Bangkok frenzy fueled by natural wine, and we’re here for it. End with a stay at the Mondrian landmark destination celebrating the best of a surrealist aesthetic with some of the best poolside views in the City.

Dinner and a Movie
Enjoy a nice romantic movie from the comfort of your own car through “The Sunset Strip Presents.” Enjoy the rooftop pool with lovely cocktails or dinner before the movie. After, check in at the famed Andaz Hotel, once known as the Riot Hyatt. We won’t get into all that here, but trust us, this hotel has earned the moniker.

Oh so Luxe
Iconic glamour and stylish allure is offered at the London West Hollywood. With food and beverage credits and deep soaking tubs, this Valentine’s special lends itself to couples and solo indulgence as well. Off-property shopping should include the fine jewelry offerings at Samira 13 to really spoil your loved one, or yourself.

Thanks for stopping by. Make sure to check out all the food, shopping, and getaway specials to find the perfect way to celebrate sex, love, and rock and roll on The Strip.

Sunset Strip Picks: SSMF 2010 Edition

Besides the big name headliners like The Smashing Pumpkins and Slash, there are more than 50 other bands scheduled to appear at this year’s Sunset Strip Music Festival. With enough music to make your eardrums swell, trying to decide which bands to catch can be a daunting task. To help quell your festival fears, here is a list of 10 finer print bands worth checking out.

BILLY BOY ON POISON – Signed to Kiefer Sutherland’s label Ironworks Music, these four young lads are taking the music world by storm with soulful rock n’ roll jams that sound like the back catalogue of seasoned vets twice their age. Having already opened for the likes of Jet, Stone Temple Pilots, and Weezer, better catch this band while they’re still willing to step foot on a club stage.  Whisky A Go-Go, Saturday, August 28, 6:30 p.m.

CASXIO – Disco is back…again! A fixture of the underground, after hours scene, this L.A.-based four-piece harkens back to the dancy good times of hot-pants, chest hair and cocaine.  Think Prince, meets Scissor Sisters, meets Sly And The Family Stone. Definitely not your typical rock club fare. Key Club, Saturday, August 28, 7:35 p.m.

CHERRI BOMB – While you may have spotted one of their three billboards high above the Hollywood gridlock, you may not know that this all-girl pop/rock sensation is comprised of members with an average age of only 13. Managed by superstar drummer Samantha Maloney (Hole, Mötley Crüe), the music industry is looking at this group of young ladies not as a novelty act, but as the next generation of rock n’ roll hit makers. The Roxy Theatre, Thursday, August 26, 8:30 p.m.

JD BENDER – True to his name, this country boy from Calabasas brings to the stage whiskey inspired southern crooning reminiscent of “The Man in Black.”  His familiar old school sound, will sound new again amidst a landscape of technology driven beats and loops. The Cat Club, Friday, August 28, 1:30 p.m.

LADY SINATRA – One of The Sunset Strip’s favorite bands, this post-punk quartet is poised to grab the music world by the balls with their rough and tumble brand of in your face, Fugazi-esque jams. The Cat Club, Friday, August 28, 4:30 p.m.

THE BINGES – Many have cited this band as one of the finest that Hollywood has to offer. With an electric stage presence that few bands can rival, this Los Angeles by way of Japan quartet will have you shouting their praises as they beat your eardrums to a bloody pulp. The Cat Club, Saturday, August 28, 5:10 p.m.

THE ROYAL HIGHNESS – Featuring former members of The Chelsea Smiles, this tried and true rock and roll outfit brings you bare bones, brass knuckles jams that bring to mind classic acts such like AC/DC. The Cat Club, Saturday, August 28, 9:40 p.m.

WHITE ARROWS – One of the eastside’s favorite electro/psychedelic outfits, these L.A. natives are building on the groundwork laid by predecessors such as The Rapture and MGMT.  The Cat Club, Saturday, August 28, 2:40 p.m.

WICKER – These hip-hop, meets electro, meets rock hipsters have hybridized and cannibalized traditional music genres to blaze a trail as their own new music phenomenon.  Check out these young kids on the rise. The Roxy Theatre, Saturday, August 28, 7:30 p.m.

VANAPRASTA – This experimental rock quintet from Silver Lake has been riding a steady buzz since arriving on the scene a mere two years ago. See why the LA Times calls these thoughtful landscape rockers one of their “Top Picks.” Key Club, Saturday, August 28, 5:20 p.m.

Also check out these other cool festival related happenings…
