Sunset Strip Photographer Showcases “A Year At The Roxy” Exhibit

When was the last time you got an all access pass? We’re not talking VIP seating, we mean on the stage, back stage, in the moment, living the performance access. That’s what a new exhibit from photographer Erik Voake brings guests when it opens Jan. 28 at The Celebrity Vault.

“Roxy 365: A Year At The Roxy Theatre” features photos from a plethora of memorable performances at The Roxy. Full of moments captured on stage and behind-the-scenes, the exhibit offers guests an all-access view of this legendary Sunset Strip venue.

“So many careers were born here and many more will be made in the future,” noted Voake. “No where else in the world can you get so close to Ozzy, Jack Black, the Jonas Bros, Keith Urban, Dolly Parton — these were all people who played or were in the audience over the year I took these photos.

Weeks and even months before any band hits the stage, a lengthy and often tedious process of negotiation has already taken place behind the scenes. The skill and “pull” of a club’s talent booker can make or break their business. Booking is a challenging mix of balancing budget, networking, having a good ear and a fair amount of luck. The Roxy Theatre’s Megan Jacobs is one of those talent bookers making magic happen behind the scenes.

Jacobs has booked talent at The Roxy Theatre for the past four years. Starting as the assistant talent buyer, she and the team at The Roxy have made the legendary venue a current, thriving club on The Sunset Strip.
