Sunset Strip Clubs Partner With National Venues For Gulf Coast Relief Benefit

Sunset Strip Clubs Partner With National Venues For Gulf Coast Relief Benefit

Our friends at The Roxy Theatre, The Comedy Store and Viper Room have partnered with other national and local music venues to host concerts benefitting the Gulf Coast relief efforts. The goal of the July 1 concerts is to raise $500,000 through ticket sales and online donations to benefit nonprofit org Gulf Restoration Network, which provides assistance to the people, wildlife and wetlands affected by the oil spill. The org also provides advocacy work throughout the Gulf region.

“We know through music and the generosity of people that we can help make a difference in the Gulf Coast,” said Roxy Theatre owner Nic Adler. “We hope this inspires others to make a donation, attend an event and get involved.”

Ashes Divide @ Viper

Ashes Divide @ Viper

On June 16, the third night of their month-long stint at the Viper Room, the intimate club was bursting at the seams as fans crammed inside to see the most enthusiastically discussed residency of recent memory. The band, Ashes Divide, is the latest evolution of songwriter/producer and guitar prodigy Billy Howerdel. Best known for founding multi-platinum supergroup A Perfect Circle, the guitarist has now stepped into the leading role as frontman, flexing his own vocal chops for this latest musical incarnation.

As most clubs and bands know, attempting to pull off a successful residency is no easy task; by week three, even a healthy fanbase starts to get a bit tuckered out and the numbers tend to dwindle. So to see the club packed to capacity on the third week is the ultimate compliment to any band or artist.

Sunset Construction Update: June 22-28

Sunset Construction Update: June 22-28

It’s summertime and crews on The Sunset Strip are working hard to make your living even easier. Construction has moved west to the final phase (Phase III) between San Vicente west to the City Limit with Beverly Hills.

This week crews began grinding the top surface of the existing roadway and prepping the base layer of asphalt for the new road. Due to regulations by the Regional Air Quality Management District, this work must be done at night, when traffic volumes are lower and there are less vehicles kicking up dust. The work is taking place Thursday through Sunday nights from June 20-24 and June 27-July 1, between the hours of 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.
