MEG MYERS MAKES WAVES ON THE SUNSET STRIP

MEG MYERS MAKES WAVES ON THE SUNSET STRIP

One of the most buzzed about new artists in recent memory, Meg Myers returned to The Viper Room last week for her second sold out showcase.  The stormy songstress played to an at-capacity crowd, peppered with major label reps, TV execs and in-the-know tastemakers, all privy to the fact that they were witnessing the turning point of a career.
With only a six song EP to mine for her live performances, Myers sailed through a blistering set, leaving the insatiable crowd clamoring for more (yet to be created) new material.  Before taking the stage, we were fortunate enough to steal away a few sound bites from Ms. Myers’ as she shared with TSS.com her nervous excitement, at being on the brink of stardom.

I was just reading your bio, which is very succinct… just briefly mentions that you grew up in Tennessee, and then I think you moved to Florida? And then…

House of Blues Lights Up Sunset Strip With 20th Anniversary Party

House of Blues Lights Up Sunset Strip With 20th Anniversary Party

House of Blues filled The Sunset Strip with a firey spectacle this week as the national concert venue celebrated 20 years and 20,000 performances with a fireworks display, celebrity party and concert featuring ZZ Top.

Blues Brothers Dan Aykroyd and Jim Belushi  reunited for the Dec. 4 event and set the stage for a massive fireworks show outside of the iconic venue. After the show, guests were treated to a performance by ZZ Top, Flogging Molly and Deer Tick inside the venue.

The event kicked off a 20 month celebration, which will also include 20th Anniversary concert tours with a portion of ticket sales from these concerts benefiting the International House of Blues Foundation's "Action For The Arts" program, which encourages creative expression through art and promotes cultural understanding.

5 Questions With Robert Stevenson Of A Silent Film

5 Questions With Robert Stevenson Of A Silent Film

Relocating from the U.K. to Phoenix, Arizona, in 2010, indie rock quartet A Silent Film have felt strangely drawn to the states ever since their inaugural tour: “The first time we drove into New York… and ‘You Will Leave a Mark’ was playing on the radio…  Never in my dreams could I imagine the songs I wrote in my bedroom as someone else's soundtrack to the skyline of New York City."

It was this epiphany, as well as their new desert digs, that provided frontman Robert Stevenson and the rest of the band, the inspiration for their most recent critically acclaimed effort, Sand & Snow, an album that’s come to define the group’s sound and brought them to the brink of stardom here in America and beyond. I recently connected with the band in advance of their House of Blues Sunset Strip show last week to reflect on their move to the States, unrequited love songs and of course, silent films.

Duff McKagan Comes Full Circle With Intimate Performance At The Viper

Duff McKagan Comes Full Circle With Intimate Performance At The Viper

Rock and Roll Hall of Famer and founding member of Guns N’ Roses, Duff McKagan returned to The Sunset Strip for two back to back, sold out shows at The Viper Room this month. For night one of this intimate engagement, McKagan, promoting his memoire It’s So Easy: And Other Lies, played an acoustic “storytellers” style set, reciting passages from his new to paperback read, while his band Loaded played accompanying instrumental renditions of GNR’s most memorable hits.

After a long evening of fan meet and greets and a stellar performance that assuredly was one of the most memorable nights in Viper Room history, McKagan sat down with TheSunsetStrip.com to reflect on the night and his memories of his first sober performance at The Viper almost 20 years ago.
