Final Week Of Construction On The Sunset Strip!

Final Week Of Construction On The Sunset Strip!

Amazing news friends!  This is the last week of major construction on The Sunset Strip! Next week crews will begin minor touch ups and utility companies will adjust their equipment in the roadway as we prepare to celebrate the boulevard during a Strip-wide block party on Aug. 12.

The block party will also include the launch of GuitarTown on The Sunset Strip, which includes more than 25 ten foot art guitars placed along the 1.6-mile Strip. The guitars celebrate the people, places and history that make The Sunset Strip so unique.

Businesses will offer unique promotions, live music and food and drink specials throughout the night. Guests are encouraged to walk the boulevard, experience the guitars while also being reintroduced to the unique businesses along The Strip.

Sunset Strip Construction Update: July 20-26

Sunset Strip Construction Update: July 20-26

Good news everyone! There are just a couple more weeks of construction left to go. The final round of paving is set for this Thursday, July 22 and Friday, July 23. This is the final rubberized asphalt layer and it reuses old car tires that would otherwise go to landfills.

After paving, the final traffic striping will be installed. A crew will install the traffic paint on the road to create the lines and markings on the road. Due to traffic impacts, and since this process is not loud, they will do this work at night.

The final sidewalks and curb work will be completed within the next week. The contractor has a few locations that will be fixed and will be complete with the concrete work. The contractor will also continue to work on the new medians at the west entrance to the City.

Social Strip 1st Birthday @ The Standard

Social Strip 1st Birthday @ The Standard

Chances are your first birthday was not this fun: pool time, ping pong, bags, DJs, gourmet cupcakes, PBR, The Standard’s views and sunshine. Lots and lots of sun. But that’s how members of The Social Strip, the geniuses behind the infamous "TweetCrawls", roll. Luckily for us, man on The Strip Brent X Mendoza braved the fun and the sunshine to capture it all.

Sunset Construction Update: July 13-19

Sunset Construction Update: July 13-19

Good news, everyone! The Sunset Strip Beautification Project is on schedule to wrap-up in the next two weeks. So, even though we’ll miss the slo-mo crusing on Sunset and learning about assorted mechanical equipment, we’re looking forward to introducing you all to our newly renovated Sunset Strip!

Please remember that all businesses will be open during their normal business hours, and we encourage you to support your local businesses during construction.

Work this week includes preparing the road for the final base layer of pavement, finishing concrete work on the sidewalks and curbs, planting trees, installing new storm drains, installing equipment to synch traffic signals, and some additional utility work.

During working hours, traffic lanes will be reduced down to one lane in each direction. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation during the construction and temporary lane closures.

The Smashing Pumpkins @ Viper Room

The Smashing Pumpkins @ Viper Room

The few that managed to get tickets knew what they were about to witness: a once-in-a-lifetime show from one of the biggest bands in the world. Within minutes of being announced, The Smashing Pumpkins’ intimate pre-tour, warm-up show at the Viper Room was a sold-out ticket.

The June 30 show brought out a different type of crowd than the usual L.A. laissez-faire club goers. The atmosphere was that of a stadium show, where young fans storm the doors and stake their claim in front of the stage, not budging for booze or bathroom breaks. With no opening acts to clutter the evening, the steadfast crowd jammed out to ’90s nostalgia tracks resurrected by DJ Jamie Scrap.

Cat Club Announces New Upgrades, Adds Legendary Booker Dayle Gloria To Team

Cat Club Announces New Upgrades, Adds Legendary Booker Dayle Gloria To Team

Sunset Strip staple the Cat Club is entering summer with some new and exciting updates. Veteran Hollywood booker Dayle Gloria, best known for breaking bands like Jane’s Addiction at her notorious Scream Club, is set to take the reigns as the Cat Club’s new talent buyer this month. Gloria will work alongside current talent booker Ian Weber and longtime owner Slim Jim Phantom as the club undergoes some changes that include a back patio makeover, and at long last, a website.

“I want it to be like Camden or SoHo,” noted Gloria, a neighborhood spot where people know the doorman and the bartenders, and stop in knowing that there’s going to be quality bands playing.
