Moby’s Artsy Book Signing At Book Soup

Moby’s Artsy Book Signing At Book Soup

Last week electronic music artist, restauranteur and vegan Moby stopped by The Sunset Strip’s very own Book Soup for a signing of his new multimedia project, Destroyed.
Ever the innovator, the musical guru’s most recent endeavor pairs his new record with a companion book of photographs crafted during the wee hours of world tour insomnia.
"This album, and the pictures that accompany it was primarily written late at night in cities when I felt like I was the only person awake (or alive)," noted Moby. "A soundtrack for empty cities at 2 a.m."

Foodies and those who use their kitchen for decorative purposes only can rejoice when DineLA’s Restaurant Week returns for its fall installment October 2-7 and 9-14. Created as a way to showcase Los Angeles’ diverse dining scene and neighborhoods, Restaurant Week is the perfect excuse to try all those restaurants on your “to eat” list by sampling multi-course meals at a reduced price.

Each participating restaurant offers three-course prix fixe lunches and/or dinners, with nine restaurants on The Sunset Strip joining in on the fun. Thai, Italian, sushi, French, Asian-fusion, steak, Mexican and California cuisine are all represented. Who’s hungry?

Faces of The Sunset Strip: “Queen of The Strip” Dayle Gloria

Veteran Hollywood booker Dayle Gloria has given “first shows” to some of the most important bands of the last two decades. The in-house talent buyer for Johnny Depp’s Viper Room in the early formative years, Gloria is back with partner-in-crime/fellow booker Tom Hoppa to reclaim the room and bring the talent level up to a standard worthy of the Viper’s worldwide name.

Catch up with the notoriously outspoken, self-proclaimed “Queen of The Sunset Strip” as she discusses her storied early days, biggest shows, cucumber contests, her formula for success and the new bands you should have on your radar.

So you first moved to L.A. in…?

1977.

And when did you start booking?

July of 1986 was the first show I ever booked.

Who played for you?

Fashion’s Night Out Transforms The Strip Into A Fashion Runway

Fashion’s Night Out Transforms The Strip Into A Fashion Runway

Fashion’s Night Out took over The Sunset Strip on Thursdsay, Sept. 8, turning the sidewalks into a fashionable runway set beneath a warm Southern California evening. Clothing and retail stores in Sunset Plaza and on The Strip extended their hours to celebrate the new fall fashion and featured store specials, cheese, wine, champagne, chocolate covered strawberries and racks and racks of the latest trends for the season.

LIVE! On Sunset, Nicole Miller and Code C showcased new accessories and jewelry made of feathers, chunky necklaces and stylish handbags along with an array of scarves to gear up for the colder weather. Fashionistas should get ready to strut their stuff with mini dresses, leggings, leather jackets and heels, as they are also set to score big this season. Sunset Strip businesses BCBG Maxazria, H. Lorenzo, Andaz West Hollywood and the Skybar at Mondrian also participated in the evening’s events.

Ink, Beats And Rhythm: Sunset Strip Tattoos

Ink, Beats And Rhythm: Sunset Strip Tattoos

If you are on The Sunset Strip, then chances are that you love music. Many have translated this love into tattoos that celebrate the artists, songs and music styles that are near and dear to them.

Photographer extraordinaire Genie Sanchez crawled The Strip and found some amazing ink revealing people’s true love for music, including tattoos referencing songs that have provided the soundtrack for the life of the bearer: Dio’s “Holy Diver,” Oingo Boingo’s “Dead Man’s Party,” “We Are 138” by The Misfits, “Mother” by Danzig, GNR’s “Rocket Queen” and Lil Wayne’s “Make It Rain.” Long live art, tattoos and music on The Sunset Strip!
